Sinners
is a stylish film directed by Ryan Coogler, a reinforcing star vehicle for Michael B. Jordan, beautifully shot, with striking musical and dance performances, and acted by a charismatic and strong ensemble. . .with none of the needed emotional engagement to make it one’s hands down best film of 2025 even with half of the year still to come. . .and yet confidently touted so by at least TWO friends.
The difference in opinion may be due to:
the lack of any strong personal empathy with the struggle of Smoke and Stack —
the lack of any intriguing insight into the story of American slavery, a well trod story
I did enjoy everything about Wunmi Mosaku and her character Annie — the character’s power, beauty, and immersion into black occult.
